The Puget Sound area has the potential for several types of disasters. Ice storms and wind can cause power outages. Earthquakes can cause significant damage. Tsunamis elsewhere can result in damage along our waterfront. A rail accident can result in evacuations. While emergency services will help as much as possible, in a wide-spread event, the available resources will be quickly taxed. Everyone can take some preparedness steps to help themselves until help can arrive.

Earthquake Preparedness:
Residents Encouraged to Join Emergency Alert System
Mukilteo residents interested in receiving up-to-date emergency notifications from Snohomish County are encouraged to sign up for the emergency management notification system.
Snohomish County’s Department of Emergency Management utilizes AlertSense to warn residents of weather alerts and other pertinent safety information as needed.
Residents can choose to receive alerts by email, text message, and/or telephone call. Click on this link to subscribe, then click on the “Sign Up” button in the middle of the page.
This alert system enhances public agencies’ ability to warn of hazardous weather and other emergency situations affecting the Snohomish County area. Additionally, the system allows individuals without landline phone service to link their address to their cell phone to receive notifications affecting their registered location.
Citizens with internet access or cell phones can subscribe for times they are away from home or without access to other notification systems. Emergency information will simultaneously be posted on the website when an alert is issued.
